Exacaster Team Wins at the Open Ocean Ventures Data Hackathon in Helsinki

CrunchScoring: predicting future startup winners with machine learning and CrunchBase data from Exacaster

A team of Exacaster data scientists hit the top 3 at OOHack Hackathon #1, organized by Open Ocean Ventures in Helsinki on October 16, 2012. The event was held on the eve of Arctic 15 startup event.

For the hackaton, Exacaster team decided to test a few startup myths by employing machine learning techniques to crunch CrunchBase data. Some of the questions they addressed:

• Is it true that only 2% of startups ever exit?
• Are we getting better at doing startups over time?
• Is it possible to improve your chances of picking the winners by employing publicly available data?
